The Bulgarian Socialist Party, the main opposition party in the country, will table a completely new draft budget bill for 2011, announced leader and ex-PM Sergey Stanishev.

The alternative draft will be considerably different both in terms of state revenue and state spending.

The socialists have been slamming the bill tabled by the GERB ruling party, calling it a budget of "freezing" that will hit severely on Bulgarian homes and businesses alike.

Over the weekend, Stanishev has been on a trip to party structures across the country.

Sunday he slammed Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov for leading a socially irrepsonsible policy. He forecasted that within next year Bulgarians will be 10% poorer.

The socialist leader was also highly critical of the government's setting a key policy priority in infrastructure to the neglect of areas such as healthcare and education.

"What use is there in Bulgaria's having highways, when its main universities can barely pay their bills?" asked Stanishev.

Earlier he had commented on the so-called ABV political project launched by President Georgi Parvanov, BSP's ex-chair, saying it is no competitor to the Socialist Party.

Stanishev claimed that no splitting of the socialists and transfer to Parvanov's ABV is imminent, and intimated that the two leftist formations could work well together in the future.
