BULGARIAN TELECOM TO BE HARDLY SOLD NOW

Business | July 28, 2001, Saturday // 00:00

The interest to the Bulgarian Telecom is absolutely small, telecommunications minister Plamen Petrov said here today. He added the government will talk to the current consultant Deutsche Bank whether they will continue to do their job. We’ll ask officially the consultant with a letter this week and they will have two weeks to answer, Nikolay Vassilev, Deputy PM and Minister of Economy said after arriving from a visit to UK. He was refused meeting with Vodaphone on the telecom sale discussion. Bulgarian Telecom was due to be sold to a consortium of the Dutch KPN and Greek OTE, but failed an year ago after Bulgarian government canceled already signed preliminary contract. It is almost sure a new consultant will compete with the current one, but is not likely Bulgarian government to change Deutsche bank so easily.
