All nine bomb packages discovered in Athens over Monday and Tuesday have been sent Monday and most probably originate from the same source.

This was stated by sources from the Greek police.

Three of the packages went off. One was accidentally started after staff at the Swiss embassy threw it out of the window.  Another was set off in front of the Russian embassy, while a third exploded on its way to the mission of Chile, lightly wounding one woman, who has this far been the only one injured.

Two more packages were destroyed under the control of Greek policemen at the embassies of Bulgaria and Germany.

Monday Greek police retrieved a package headed for President of France Nicolas Sarkozy, as well as bomb shipments to the embassies of the Netherlands, Belgium and Mexico.

A tenth package left out the borders of Greece to be found in the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel Tuesday afternoon.

Greek police stated that they are viewing it as highly likely that all nine initial bomb shipments have been sent in a coordinated move by a single organization.

Two young men, aged 22 and 24, have been arrested. One of them belongs to the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire extreme group, which is being considered as a possible author of the attacks.

Greek police have nevertheless stated that they are not limiting their investigations to that group alone.

They commented that it is the usual tactic of extremist groups is to try to harm the country's international image.
