Green MEP from Greece Michail Tremopoulos has called for a trilateral Balkan antinuclear meeting for spring 2011.

This idea was launched at a Greens conference on the Black Sea, ecology and energy held in Sofia over the weekend.

Termopoulos' proposal, which was welcomed warmly by Greek, Bulgarian and Turkish Greens alike, was to hold a cross-border meeting at the borders of the three countries near Orestiada, Svilengrad and Edirne in April 2010.

This action comes as the Turkish government has announced ambitious plans to build three NPPs by 2018, and Bulgarian authorities are considering reviving the Belene NPP project.

Across Europe, Greens have consistently held a strong anti-nuclear stance.

The Sofia Greens conference, entitled "Black Sea Countries: Partners for Ecology and Democracy?", is part of the Black Sea Dialogue series and held at Sofia's Radisson Hotel.
