One lane of the Brussels Blvd in Sofia, which is the major road to the Sofia International Airport, will be open on October 30, the mayor Yordanka Fandakova has announced.
The traffic on the Brussels Blvd will be directed only towards the airport, while the traffic from the airport towards Tsarigradsko Shausse will be along Christopher Columbus Blvd, which runs on a lower level below the Brussels Blvd.
The repairs began July 31 and the deadline for their completion is December 19. The funding of BGN 15 M have been provided by the state.
The renovation includes rehabilitation of the bridge facility, on which the boulevard is located, laying of a new waterproofing, asphalt and asphalt concrete, as well as construction of soundproofed partitions along the boulevard.
The company executing the repairs of the 2-km section is the Bulgarian Glavbolgarstroy.
The last renovation of the Brussels Blvd took place in 2004 and cost BGN 2,2 M. Since then, the bridge facility was in a very bad condition, having fallen cladding panels and a broken concrete foundation.
