The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) will start a protest against the little amount of state funding, the BAS President has announced.
The protests will be held November 3 in front of the institutions that decide on the academy's funding and maintenance.
The academy has prepared a declaration for its condition, pointing out that BAS is financially destroyed.
The academy's president, Nikola Sabotinov, has stated that there were no money for scientists' salaries and that institutes stop working.
"It is the state that has to take care of its science. The state benefits from it. We should not enforce it. Every reasonable country is taking care of the science, it is using the scientific potential for development and for overcoming crisis," he said.
In his words, if the state funding for science does not change and remain as proposed in the draft budget, then the money would only be enough for salaries and only if the salaries are decreased by 25%.
