Citizens and bicyclists have displayed the number 350 in front of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia to mark the International Day of Climate Change.
The initiative, led by the website '350' and its Global Work Party, has prepared 7,347 activities in 188 countries. All events will take place on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 10:10 am.
The organizers have announced that number 350 symbolizes the necessity of immediate actions against climate changes. According to climatologists, 350 parts per million is the safe upward limit of the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
They claim that we have to go back to this level as soon as possible in order to avoid uncontrollable climate changes.
Several more initiatives will be organized in the Bulgarian capital. Volunteers with gas masks will inform passengers about the measures for fighting climate changes. There will be an information desk for the "350" initiative downtown Sofia.
In the afternoon, the organizers have prepared a "Frozen Exhibition,"in which the participants will remain "frozen" for 350 seconds, displaying different messages to make people think about possible solutions to the climate changes.
