Bulgarian doctors have announced they would not protest if the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov makes a written promise for more funding for health care and for removal of delegated budgets for hospitals.

"We expect to receive as soon as possible the BGN 125 M that the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) owes to the hospitals for their work from March until July. We want to be provided with the necessary funding until the end of the year so that the system could function properly," said Dimitar Lenkov, Deputy Head of the Bulgarian Doctors Union.

In an interview for the Bulgarian Darik Radio, Lenkov stated that the union demands a separation of the fund's budget from the consolidated state budget.

"If are demands are fulfilled, there will be no protests. We looked at the draft budget of NZOK. It envisions a surplus of BGN 544 M. The fund's budget should not be made in this way," he said.

Doctors have announced they will protest on October 7 against the cuts of state financing for the health care, and the generally unclear reform situation in the country.
