The Bulgarian Labor Ministry will launch a new project from October 1, which will give opportunity to people under 29 years of age to gain experience in their field of study as interns.

The initiative is financed under the operational program "Human Resources Development" and will last 34 months.

The Bulgarian Labor Minister Totyu Mladenov announced Sunday that BGN 35 M is the envisioned funding for internships of about 13,500 people.

"Our goal is to help young people by putting them in contact with employers. In this way, they will gradually gain work experience and will be more fit for the labor market," he said.

The minister has pointed out that the program is directed only towards private businesses. Municipal and state administrations, or structures of the judiciary will not be included in it.

The candidates should be young people who have completed secondary vocational or higher education, but who do not have work experience in their field of study.

The Labor Ministry has announced that the current registered unemployed young people with secondary vocational education are about 14,500 and those with a higher education - about 6,500.

The internships will last for 6 months, during which the interns will receive a salary of BGN 300. The social insurances that the employer is supposed to pay, will also be funded by the project.

"The companies will appoint mentors to train the young people and help them shape their working habits," Mladenov said.

The mentors will receive additional monthly bonuses, amounting to half of the minimum salary.

The application forms will be uploaded on the website of the Labor Ministry at the beginning of October.

The vacant positions will be announced at the bureaus of the Bulgarian Employment Agency, where youngsters will be able to apply for inclusion in the program.
