Politics | July 25, 2001, Wednesday // 00:00
For the first time ever, Bulgarian troops fired weapons of the Turkish army at the range in Lozengrad (Turkey). The two countries exchanged military units for training purposes on Monday morning at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. At the shooting range of 22nd Balkan Regiment in Harmalni, the Turkish troops fired Kalashnikov assault rifles, mortars and BTR-60 PB. The two-day programme featured demonstration of weapons and military equipment, field exercises and shooting practice. This is the first exercise of this kind held on Bulgarian territory. It showcases the good level of interoperability between the Bulgarian and Turkish armed forces. It was observed by Bulgarian 3rd Army Corps Commander Major General Ivan Dobrev, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Corps of the Turkish Army General Hairy Kavrikoglu and 33rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Emin Yunel.
