Bulgaria's Varna to Host Film Festival 'Golden Rose' in Oct
The 29th edition of the festival for Bulgarian feature film “Golden Rose” will be held October 2-8 in the Black Sea city of Varna.
The organizers will be the Agency “National Film Center”, supported by the Ministry of Culture, the municipality of Varna, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and the Festival and Congress Center in Varna.
For the first time the Varna company “Artin Vision”, which is specialized in organizing musical and film events, will be a co-organizer of the “Golden Rose.
This year's edition of the festival will include all Bulgarian feature films that have been made in the last two years. A total of 24 films will be shown during the six-day program.
Out of all movies, 15 have been made with the financial support by the agency “National Film Center”, 11 have been finished in 2010, 6 have been produced by BNT and 3 have been independent productions and have received financing outside of the system. Also, half of the movies are debuts for their directors.
One of the most popular and successful Bulgarian films for the paste years, Mission London and Eastern Plays, will be presented and will compete in the festival.
For the first time in the history of “Golden Rose” will be conducted a competition for Bulgarian short feature film. Its goal is to popularize the short form of feature films and to encourage performances of th youngest generation of filmmakers in Bulgaria.
All the films, included in the festival's program, will be assessed by a five-member jury. The Chair will be the Bulgarian director Ivan Nichev, also a winner at the festival.
This year's edition will be opened on October 2 with Dimitar Mitovski's film “Mission London”. Before the festival's end, the organizers have prepared a workshop with international participation on “Strategies for the international success of contemporary Bulgarian cinema”.
Aleksandar Donev, executive director of the agency “National Film Center”, has announced that the ide of the organizers is to have the festival annually, so that it has a permanent place in the national and international calendar for culture and film events.
