“Between 6 and 10 new cases are registered every day,” announced the health services from the Volgograd Russian federal subject, adding that three more cases have been registered in the neighboring Voronezh federal subject.

The record heat that covered Russia this summer and made temperatures in the southern part of the country rise up to 40 degrees Celsius have caused the influx of mosquitoes, which number increased 20 times in comparison to last year.

The mosquitoes are the carriers of the West Nile Virus. According to the Russian health services, the increase of the severely infected cases n the country may lead to a potential infection of about 2 million people from the region.

The West Nile Virus has also been storming Greece for weeks, killing 8 people and infected at least 92.

The virus begins with a fever, high temperature, nausea and vomiting, which are the symptoms of an ordinary virus infection.

However, the symptoms turn very fast into encephalitis and meningitis and the infected need urgent hospitalization.

The Bulgarian Health Ministry has stated that they have not detected any deadly mosquitoes and have not registered any cases of the West Nile virus in the country.
