Two earthquakes have been registered in southern Bulgaria early Saturday, the Seismological Center to the Geophysical Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences reports.

The first tremor, with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale was registered at 5:34 am in the Yambol Region. The area is known for its high seismologic activity, but shocks are usually light because the epicenters are close to the surface.

The Civil Defense reports no injuries and material damage.

Shortly after that, at 5:44 am, a second, 25-km-deep earthquake was registered in Bulgaria. The epicenter was 77 km northwest of the Black Sea city of Burgas, and 28 km northeast of the southern city of Sliven, the site of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center informs. The magnitude of the second shock was 2.6 on the Richter scale.
