Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
The airport in the Bulgarian city of Burgas, which is close to the Sunny Beach resort and the UNESCO heritage town of Nessebar, has registered its busiest day of the year.
On Tuesday, July 20, the Burgas Airport had the record number of 142 flights; the overwhelming majority of these were charter flights bringing in tourists.
Usually, during the height of the summer season the Burgas Airport, which is the only airport along Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast, services about 120 flights daily.
The largest numbers of foreign tourists coming to Bulgaria through the Burgas Airport are from Germany, Russia, the UK, the Czech Republic, Israel, and Poland.
The Burgas Airport receives flights from about 100 charter destinations serviced by 76 air companies from Europe, Russia, and Israel. The regular flights to and from Burgas service 22 destinations.
The management of the airport in Burgas recommend that tourists coming for their outbound flights should arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before the take-off in order to avoid delays caused by the large traffic.
The airport expects a 5% increase of the number of travelers in 2010 compared to 2009.
