The Bulgarian Parliament passed Wednesday, at first reading, the updated budget of the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) for 2010.
The expenditure part of the budget goes up by BGN 220 M. 106 Members of the Parliament voted for, 17 against and 1 abstained. The opposition demanded that Health Minister, Anna-Maria Borisova, is present for the debate, but the majority rejected the request.
As usual, the debate turned political with accusations from both sides about the failing health care reform.
It is expected the revenues and the transfers of NZOK will end up being BGN 2.6 B at the end of 2010, of which BGN 1.6 B from health insurance contributions. The amount of expenditures and transfers by the end of the year is estimated at BGN 1.9 B.
