Sofia BT reported a record high output of cigarettes for year 2000. A total of 5,979 tons of cigarettes were sold, worth BGN 74.831 M, of which 113 tons were sold on foreign markets. The company already holds 25% of the domestic cigarette market. The company`s profit amounts to BGN 7.273 M, of which BGN 2.182 M will be distributed as dividends. 10% will be allocated to the reserve fund, the remainder-to the additional reserves. Bulgartabac Holding is the majority shareholder in Sofia BT. It holds nearly 80% of the capital. Another 8.6% are held by Rothmans of Pall Mall. The record results are due to the company`s re-orientation to production of cigarettes with lower content of nicotine and tar, the development of the distribution network, and to the massive advertising campaign.
