Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, criticized Saturday President, Georgi Parvanov, for being evasive about his so-called “political project.”

“When I was Mayor of Sofia, everyone new about my project for the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party; about the party’s structure and possible coalition partners. The only reproach I have towards the President regarding his plans is his reluctance to publicity declare them,” Borisov said.

The PM voiced hope Parvanov will not stand in the way of the educational reform as one of the team members working on it is actually an advisor of the President, adding he supports paid education in State universities and colleges and State subsidies for private schools.

Borisov also revealed how BGN 20 000 to 30 000 have been paid to his predecessor, socialist leader, Sergey Stanishev, for unused leave, and vowed to make his ministers’ participation in meetings of the cabinet mandatory.

“Four of the key ministers – my two Deputies, Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, and Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, along with Justice Minister, Margarita Popova and Foreign Affairs Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, were not present during the last Council of Ministers meeting where me make important decisions. From now on, they will be able to miss a meeting only if they are called in Brussels or over unforeseen emergencies. At all other times, their deputies will have to assume their duties and go on businesses trips for them,” the PM vowed.

Borisov defined as his cabinet’s outmost goal to make Bulgarian people wealthier, saying we have already seen what happens when everyone is poor, and that there is nothing harmful if Bulgarians strive to become richer.

The PM spoke Saturday during the official inauguration ceremony of the temple in the village of Staro Selo, near the western town of Radomir, where works of Zahari Zograf are housed.

Borisov was accompanied by the Minister for Bulgarians Abroad, Bozhidar Dimitrov, who is also a well known historian, the Pernik Regional Governor and Members of the Parliament from GERB.

The PM surprised the crowd gathered around the temple by driving his own car.

“I like to drive so I don’t forget how to do it and I obeyed all traffic laws on my way here,” Borisov told them.

The restoration of the church temple was financed by the State and by private donations.
