Turkish company Dedeman Hotels and Resorts International is considering the opening of new hotels in Bulgaria.
Dedeman already owns and operates two hotels in Bulgaria – Sofia Princess Hotel and Plovdiv Trimontium Princess.
It is now considering the opportunities for opening new hotels in destinations such as Varna on the Black Sea and the mountain resort Bansko, and is even conducting negotiations with local investors, according to a report of Turkey’s major English-language newspaper, Hurriyet Daily News.
“Our first goal is to turn Plovdiv and Sofia into key destinations for meetings and congresses of Turkish companies. Turkish citizens come to Bulgaria mainly to do business. In Dedeman Sofia Pricess we have halls that can seat 900 people,” regional Dedeman manager Adnan Hasturk is quoted as saying during a news conference in Sofia.
In his words, the Turkish hotel operator has invested EUR 50 M in its two Bulgarian hotels so far.
Hasturk has called upon the Bulgarian authorities to reduce the visa fees for Turkish citizens. He forecasts a substantial increase in the number of Turkish tourists in Bulgaria if such measures are taken on part of the Bulgarian government.
He has pointed out that Dedeman’s Sofia Princess Hotel has 601 rooms, and employs a staff of 300; the Trimontium Princess Hotel in Plovdiv has 154 rooms, with 12% of its guests coming from Turkey.
Dedeman operates hotels in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Iran, Syria, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, and is considering entering Greece and Saudi Arabia.
