The first stage of the campaign “Idea for Clean Sofia” concluded Tuesday with an award ceremony for the best of the 110 participating businesses and over 28 000 of the capital city's residents.
Despite the cold April rain, scores gathered in the park in front of the National “Ivan Vazov” Theater to take part in the celebration.
The Director of the Sofia City Hall Inspectorate, Veska Georgieva, informed that since the launch of the campaign on March 20, they have counted 28 000 participants, but the estimates are much higher.
The volunteers have cleaned 4 500 decares and hauled 10 000 cubic meters of waste. The campaign will now be year-round, with Georgieva appealing to Sofia's residents to actively participate each weekend and assuring them the City Hall has plenty of cleaning equipment and supplies.
