A Bulgarian cancer sufferer has received EUR 100 000 compensation after suing the Ministry of Health for not providing life-saving medicines on time.

Angelina Boneva won her case in the Sofia Administrative Court on Thursday after a long legal battle.

In 2006 Boneva was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Following an operation she did not receive the required medicines from the Ministry of Health which is a legal obligation.

She was forced to pay BGN 10 000 for the medicines and her husband took out a bank credit to cover the payments.

Boneva won the case after it was found that the Ministry of Health had not kept to regulation 34 for drug distribution.
