Two Bulgarian policemen have died after crashing with an ambulance on the main road from Ruse to Veliko Tarnovo in the village of Samovodone.

According to reports the accident happened at 09:30 Tuesday morning after the police reacted to an emergency call in their Lada Niva. Petar Georgiev and Kuncho Kunev from Resen police died at the scene.

A 38 year-old doctor who was travelling in the ambulance is currently being treated in Veliko Tarnovo Hospital with a broken leg and other injuries, while the patient and driver of the ambulance are also in Hospital.

The incident is currently being investigated and traffic is being temporarily diverted in the area.
