The NATO base near Kandahar in Afghanistan has been attacked by two rockets at 7.35 local time, Bulgaria's defense ministry announced.

There have been no reports of Bulgarian casualties or material damages.

A rocket attack on the NATO base near Kandahar in Afghanistan at the end of January left four Bulgarians injured, during the visit of Bulgarian Defense Minister Nikolay Mladenov to the base.

The rocket exploded about 200 meters from the accommodation of Mladenov and the Bulgarian government delegation just before 22:00 on January 24.

At present, the Bulgarian contingents in Afghanistan, numbering about 500 troops, are based in three locations – Kabul, Kandahar and Herat. Taliban rocket attacks on the Kandahar base, the outer permiter of which is guarded by UK soldiers, are very common with up to 400 reported in 2009.

Bulgarian Minister of Defense Nikolay Mladenov visited the Kabul headquarters of the Bulgarian NATO military contingent in January, as part of his five-day visit to Afghanistan.
