Bulgarian journalist Valeria Veleva has urged Ahmed Dogan, leader of the ethnic Turkish party DPS, to prove the brown-envelope journalism claims he made in an open letter.
On Thursday, Dogan accused Veleva of blackmailing his party using her public influence to extract money for “secret PR”. His open letter with these claims came as a follow-up of publications of the Trud Daily paper where Veleva works reporting that he received BGN 1,5 M as a consultant of the notorious Tsankov Kamak hydro power plant project.
“Let Ahmed Dogan prove his claims,” Veleva said on bTV Friday claiming that the end of his open letter contains a threat against her.
The Editor-in-Chief of the Trud Daily, Tosho Toshev, has criticized Ahmed Dogan for his letter attacking Veleva.
In an editorial, Toshev says that Dogan is very rich but the origin of much of his wealth cannot be proven.
“How can Dogan explain this wealth to the hundreds of thousands of honest and struggling Bulgarian Turks for whom Dogan has the status of a god?,” Toshev asks in his article defending Veleva and referring to the typical voters of the DPS (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) party.
