Bulgaria Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov has praised the work of artists and staff at the "Stefan Makedonski" National Musical Theater in central Sofia.
The Minister expressed his hopes that all involved in the theater would benefit from future reforms, and undertook to provide financial assistance for a forthcoming production they are rehearsing.
"Only one thing is wanted of you - to create a quality spiritual product," he said, adding: "The great goal, the meaning of reform is that Bulgarian theater halls be filled, that audiences of different generations come willingly to their favorite shows".
Rashidov said on Tuesday that he wanted the theater to be "full of life, to fill the hall with happy spectators, and I will try to arrange that part of the income from ticket sales will remain inside the theater," promising that, as the Culture Minister, "through our joint efforts we will succeed in overcoming the crisis".
Todor Dimitrov, Executive Director, and singer Mariyana Arsenova, Deputy Director of Artistic Affairs of the musical theater, expressed their appreciation of the Minister's cooperation.
Artists working at the theater asked the Ministry of Culture to support their next, ambitious project, "Die Csardasfurtin" - known in English as "The Gipsy Princess", which will be performed in May.
In reply Vezhdi Rashidov pleadged that the Ministry would grant an exceptional sum of BGN 3 000 for the purchase of four new microphones, which would significantly improve the acoustics in the theater.
"If the sound in the auditorium is improved with this new equipment - no worries, we'll give you the money," he pledged.
