Bulgaria Defense Minister Anyu Angelov has stated that the administration of Bulgaria’s Army needs to be reduced by up to 30%.

Angelov, speaking on bTV Monday, said that it is crucial to reduce the staff in the army’s administration which is “unnecessarily bloated”.

He added that the 1432 civil servants currently employed in the administration is twice as much as the number of workers in the Dutch and Belgian army administrations put together.

Angelov continued that the defense ministry currently wastes a huge amount of its resources and with BGN 500 M less put aside for the army in the 2010 budget compared to that of 2009, these must be cut.

He concluded that army officers will not be made to pay their own national insurance payments until their wages are increased.
