Eight Bulgarian cities are staging protest rally Wednesday as the Parliament is expected to vote on final draft of the Genetically Modified Organisms Act later during the day.

”Bulgaria free of GMO” slogans will be raised by rallies in Sofia, Pleven, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Varna, Kyustendil, Ruse, and Rudozem.

The GMO legislation has been in disputed in Bulgaria over the last two months, and despite the many amendments designed to exclude the possibility that GMOs will be allowed on Bulgarian soil, the protesting NGOs and civil society coalitions believe that the law in question still does not provide sufficient guarantees.
