The vast majority of Bulgarians are against the proliferation of genetically modified organism (GMOs) in the country according to a recent survey.
The National Center for Study of Public Opinion (NCSPO) survey showed that 97% of Bulgarians believe Bulgaria should continue to support a complete ban on GMOs while 93% support the current ban on growing genetically modified tobacco, rose oil, vine, wheat, fruits and vegetables.
The survey also suggested that Bulgarians believe it is important for the Bulgarian government to stand up to the EU on the issue.
NCSPO conducted the survey amongst 1214 people across Bulgaria between 5-12 March at the request of UDF MP Lachezar Toshev, whose amendments to the GMO Act were recently ignored by the parliamentary Environment Committee.
