There is no information about Bulgarians being injured during the Thursday earthquake in Chile, the Bulgarian Consul in Santiago, Emil Samardzhiev informs.

Samardzhiev is cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR. He further said the country's Ambassador, Valeri Yotov, had been participating in the ceremony of President-elect Sebastian Pinera taking his Oath of Office, when the powerful aftershock happened.

The 7.2 magnitude quake hit Thursday the central part of the country, including Santiago, while Pinera and hundreds of high powered Chileans and foreign diplomats gathered for the swearing in ceremony in the capital city.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey there were two quakes, the first with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 and the second registered at 7.2. The epicenter is 124 km northwest of Santiago.

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile last month, killing at least 500 and leaving the affected region's infrastructure in ruins.
