Large parts of Bulgaria are experiencing transportation problems as a result of a snow blizzard lasting the entire day on March 8.

Enormous traffic jams formed in the capital Sofia as well at a number of key roads around the country due to the heavy snowfall.

The southeastern District of Burgas is experiencing the worst problems with hundreds of cars stranded in the snow along the planned extension of the Trakiya Highway.

The traffic police have warned all drivers over the inclement weather especially with respect to the passes of the Stara Planina. The heavy snowfall is forecast to continue through the week.

Five young men and women died in a car accident south of Sofia Monday afternoon, after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The sixth person in the car, the driver, is in a Sofia hospital, and his life is still in danger.

Dozens of villages in the Districts of Pleven, Montana, and Vidin in the north, and Haskovo in the south are without electricity as a result of power outages caused by the snowfall.
