Parts of villages located along the Danube in Northwestern Bulgaria have already been flooded as the river level is rising threateningly.

On Saturday, the Danube level near the northwestern city of Vidin surpassed the critical 750 cm, and on Sunday morning, it already stood at 782 cm.

This has led to the rising of underground waters already causing minor floods in the region. The road between Vidin and Archar running along the Danube has been closed because of that.

The Civil Protection service has initiated measures to be taken in the event of a flood. A local crisis headquarters has proclaimed the first phase of reacting to a potential flood.
