Spanish prominent singer Concha Buika, a contemporary world music star who brings flamenco and jazz together with her smoky voice, will stage a concert in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on April 17.

The concert will mark the Spanish Presidency of the European Union and is organized with the cooperation of Spain's Embassy in Sofia.

The trip comes shortly after the launch of Buika's most recent album, “El Ultimo Trago” (The Last Drink), in which she collaborates with famous Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdes, pays tribute to the legendary Mexican diva Chavela Vargas and reinterprets her timeless songs.

Concha Buika was born 1972 in Palma de Mallorca, but her family is originally from Equatorial Guinea. She grew up in Mallorca among gypsies, who imbued in her the traditional "cante" flamenco, which would transform later into music that mixes flamenco and coplas with soul and jazz.

Her album Niña de Fuego was nominated for the 2008 Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Asked to define herself, she said, "I am bisexual, three-phase and tridimensional."
