Bulgaria’s Unit for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) has been involved in 2 searches Friday of the offices of Plamen and Yordan Stoyanovi aka the Dambovtsi Brothers, who were recently arrested in the ‘Octopus’ operation.
Lyudomil Rangelov, the Dambovtsi Brothers’ lawyer, said that the searches were the third time that their offices had been raided without a legal search warrant.
The raids occurred just hours after the Sofia Appellate Court released the pair on a BGN 40 000 bail. Rangelov added that only 2 mobile phones were found in the operation, which he alleged had also been there during previous searches.
The ‘Octopus’ suspects, including former DANS secret agent Aleksei Petrov, are charged with a wide range of criminal activities, including racketeering, financial crimes, and enticement into prostitution. A total of 14 men and women were initially arrested on February 10 in the police operation codenamed "Octopus".
Plamen Stoyanov, told journalists that he had sent a letter to the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism, in which he had suggested a recovery plan for the steel mill ‘Kremikovtsi’ and added that as investors they had no reason to drain the plant.
