A photo, featuring an unidentified woman kissing a pre-election placard of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, has won a nationwide “Sweetest Kiss” competition.

The picture is by photographer Lili Petrova, who works for the online Plovdivmedia edition.

A total of a hundred and twenty nine photos from the whole country as well as ten more by French photographers joined the contest, which takes place for the fifth year in a row.

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, once a police officer and karate fighter, whose security firm guarded the country's communist leader Todor Zhivkov to become later personal guard of Simeon Saxe-Coburg, enjoys adulation from the public, is a hero to the Bulgarian media and is the most popular leader the country has had in years.

Borisov made it to the big stage after being appointed Secretary General of the Bulgarian Interior. As the country's top anti-crime boss and subsequently Sofia mayor and Bulgaria's prime minister he built up the image of a man with don't-bother-me-cause-I'm-too-busy expression, a man who is always there when someone bad did something wrong.

Hardly a day goes by without his face to appear in the newspapers or on the TV. Borisov basks in the media spotlight and has became notorious for being too outspoken on such acute issues as crime and corruption.

It is the man-of-the-people part however at which Borissov excels best and which has secured him the unchallenged image of a star and a sex symbol, capable to win any competition, including that about the sweetest kiss.
