Cold Snap Expected: Temperatures to Drop to Minus 15°C in Bulgaria
Cold weather and snow are expected to hit Bulgaria later this week
After the recent blizzards that have caused chaos in Bulgaria over recent days, temperatures have risen sharply and heavy rain is forecasted to sweep across the country.
20- 30 litres/m2 of rain is expected to fall everywhere across the country, with the Plovdiv region in Central Bulgaria set to be most affected.
The Environment Ministry warned local mayors to be aware of the risks of icy roads and flooding. They also warned tourists and locals to be aware of the increased avalanche risk in Bulgaria’s mountains due to the expected temperature increase to 10oC.
They also concluded that there is a major risk of flooding in many areas as the heavy rain will melt a thick layer of snow that has formed over the past week.
Snowfall across the country will gradually subside, with cloud cover beginning to break.
