Bulgaria: Bulgaria EC Designate: EU Didn't Get Its Seat at Copenhagen

Bulgaria’s EC Designate Kristalina Georgieva declared during her EP hearing that she had seen both negative and positive development at the Copenhagen climate summit.

Answering a MEP question about the outcome of the summit which provided no binding agreement for limiting climate change, Georgieva said she had “mixed feelings” about the forum

“The Copenhagen Summit was problematic both because it was chaotic and because the EU did not get EU seat that it was hoping to get. However, five years ago I wouldn’t hope to see 120 heads of state together, so I believe the level of awareness has gone up a great deal,” Kristalina Georgieva stated.

She made it clear that she saw the positive lining of the Copenhagen Summit and the potential of the negotiations process for the future.

With respect to the role of multinational corporations in developing countries, Bulgaria’s Georgieva said it was important to distinguish between those who had a positive impact, and the others interested only in making profit.
