Bulgaria’s Minister of Health, Bozhidar Nanev, said Friday in Parliament that several military helicopters would soon be ready to be used for providing emergency medical help around the country.
The Health Ministry has specified that within a couple of months four helicopters will be provided by the Defense Ministry to the Health Ministry to be used for medical emergencies.
The helicopters have already been modified, the only thing left is to install the medical equipment in them.
In the fall of 2009, Bulgaria’s Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Health signed a joint agreement under which the Defense Ministry is to provide helicopters from the Bulgarian Air Force to be used by the other institutions.
The Defense Ministry is responsible for their technical maintenance, whereas the Interior and Health Ministries will cover the costs. The exact number of helicopters to be part of this program was not specified at the time.
