Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo Highway Construction Starts Today
Excitement mounts as the Regional Ministry announces the commencement of the much-anticipated highway construction linking Ruse to Veliko Tarnovo, set to kick off this Sunday.
Prominent Bulgarian archeologist, Nikolay Ovcharvov, presented Tuesday, in the city of Veliko Tarnovo, 35 new unique finds from the medieval monastery “Sts Peter and Pavel.”
Ovcharov showed ceramic burial vessels, a studded book jacket and jewelry dating from the 13th - 17th century.
In the course of 2 months, during the summer of 2009, the archeologists found over 100 tombs. The excavations yielded 600 precious gold and silver objects and over 600 silver and bronze coins. The most valuable finds include a ring and earrings of a Veliko Tarnovo princess.
Ovcharov announced the objects will be on display in Sofia beginning February 16 as part of the exhibit of the most important discoveries of Bulgarian archeologists for 2009.
