Two flights have failed to land in Sofia due to the snowy conditions in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia Airport Executive Director, Plamen Stanchev reported Tuesday.

Stanchev reported that the flights from Athens (20 passengers) and Istanbul (85 passengers) were returned to their departure points after the runway at Sofia Airport became to difficult to land on due to the snow cover.

He added that even with the ongoing cleaning efforts that started at 7:00 am from 9:00-10:30 the runway could not be landed on.

Stanchev concluded that the Airport is now working normally and that the weather is set to improve throughout the afternoon.
