Amoz Os, the prominent Israeli writer, novelist and journalist, paid his first visit to Bulgaria this weekend to present his new book "Rhyming Life and Death“ in the framework of Sofia book fair.
The writer, who is invariably among the nominees for Nobel prize over the last few years, is one of the most influential and well-regarded intellectuals in Israel, a giant for the wealth of his literary achievements and for his courageous political stance.
“I can't be a prophet in the country of prophets, there is too much competition,” Oz said jokingly at the press conference in Sofia. “I do not have the feeling that I am abroad. There is so much frankness, passion and warmth in your country that I feel like I am at home.”
During his meetings in Bulgaria Oz has also talked about another of his books ("The same sea", 1998), since most of its characters come from Bulgaria.
“I will be happy to see it published here, so that my characters may feel they have finally returned home,” the prominent writer shared. “We will never forget how this country rescued the Bulgarian Jews in the World War II”.
Amoz Os is author of more than 18 books, translated into 35 languages and more than 450 essays. The Bulgarian readers already know four of them - “A Tale of Love and Darkness", “To Know a Woman”, “Black Box” and “How to Cure a Fanatic".
In his latest book, described by critics as one of the deepest and most successful in his whole career, the author traces eight hours of the life of a writer, searching for his place, squeezed between fiction and reality, life and death.
