A day after a Serbian daily slammed Bulgaria as “a backstabber”, another Belgrade-based newspaper carries on the same furious line, saying Bulgarians always hit Serbians when they are at a loss which side to take.

“The Serbian legal team is deeply disappointed with Bulgaria's energetic support for Kosovo independence at the International Court of Justice in The Hague,” the Press newspaper wrote, saying that this comes just to prove Bulgaria's tradition to stab Serbia in the back when the going gets tough.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague is holding the hearings at Serbia's request a decade after NATO bombing ended a two-year war between Serbia and ethnic Kosovo Albanians. The court is expected to give its advisory opinion within a year.

According to the article Bulgaria's support for Albanian positions sabotages Serbia's top foreign policy goal to be the most important political factor on the Balkans.

The article mentions nationalist Pavel Chernev as one of “Serbia's friends in Bulgaria”, for his decision to tear apart Kosovo flag following its declaration of independence.

The Press does not miss to discredit Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov as well, saying that he is a very controversial figure with contacts ranging from Balkan drug lord Sreten Josic to pop folk diva Tsetsa Razhnyatovic.

The article comes days after Serbia called on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to declare that Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008 broke international law.

Kosovo responded by saying its independence was irreversible.

Serbia still considers Kosovo to be part of its territory, and is hoping a favourable ruling at the ICJ will stop it gaining international recognition.

Some 63 countries have recognised the independence of Kosovo.

They include the US and 22 of the 27 members of the European Union, including Bulgaria.

But more than 100, including Russia and China, have not.

The United Nations has also withheld recognition.
