Join Bulgaria’s 'Night of Literature': Live Readings from 19 European Books Across the Country
Excerpts from 19 European titles will be read on September 25
A total of 125 Bulgarian publishing houses and distributors and eight foreign ones are taking part in the 28th edition of Sofia Book Fair, which opened its doors on December 2 at the National Palace of Culture.
Visitors to the fair will have the opportunity to use a 20% discount, which equals the price of the books VAT-free.
"We hope that one day the Bulgarian government will decide to implement the European standards in this field," commented Vesselin Todorov, chair of the Bulgarian book Association, organizers of the event.
He stressed that the fair has escaped unhurt by the crisis, keeping unchanged the number of participants and books.
“Bulgarian publishers enjoy stable turnover and sales, which is why they are active participants in the fair,” Todorov said.
The fair will give the chance to book-lovers to join a number of premieres, including “The secret files are speaking up” by Valentin Boyadzhiev, which has been described as the first encyclopedia on the secret agents from the State Security and the military intelligence.
The Association of the Bulgarian Publishers is to award the Bronze Lion statuette to the publisher whose book proved to be the biggest success on the market.
No fewer than 2000 are the publishing houses registered in Bulgaria, an impressively high number for its territory and population.
