Bulgaria’s new EU Commissioner, Rumiana Jeleva, has said it was still unclear who would succeed her as the country’s new Foreign Minister.

Jeleva has been named as the new EU Commissioner on International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response by EC Borroso.

In her words, the Bulgarian government and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov were going to wait for the completion of the whole process for her appointment as EU Commissioner, i.e. the hearing in the European Parliament scheduled for January 2010, before naming he Foreign Ministry successor.

In October 2009, citing anonymous diplomatic sources, Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) reported that Bulgaria’s most likely new Foreign Minister after Jeleva became a EU Commissioner will be her Deputy Marin Raykov.
