The 5th Summer Academy of Performing Arts, which opens Monday in Sofia, has attracted over 80 participants from 33 countries of Europe, Asia and Australia. Among others, the Academy has welcomed independent artists from the Balkans and other parts of Eastern and Central Europe. Its programme involves discussions on techniques, methods and theories in contemporary performing arts. The forum explores the borders between various arts and their application in social practices. Artists, theorists and scholars of contemporary theatre, dance, visual arts and music, young professionals working in the field of motion theatre and visual performance, and experts in social sciences will exchange expertise during the Summer Academy until August 7. The forum is organized by the Sofia-based Soros Art Centre with assistance from New Bulgarian University and two Amsterdam-based organizations, Gulliver Clearing House and the Felix Meritis Foundation. Various performances will be staged on the sidelines of the forum.
