A total of $3.5 M will be spend on the renovation of the grounds surrounding the Central Railway Station in Sofia. The implementation of the project will start in October 2001, Sofia City Mayor Stefan Sofianski announced. Architects Snezha Daskalova and Milan Dobrev, who were the original designers of the building, drew up the renovation project. Construction work was completed in 1975. It has not been renovated since then. The station is now the haunt of drug addicts, homeless, beggars, etc. The infrastructure of the entire building will be replaced. Parking problems will be solved with the remodelling into a three-level of the underground parking lot. A procedure for the construction of an international bus station has been launched. The capital still lacks such a facility.
