Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov has further criticized former PM Sergey Stanishev for his handling of a top secret intelligence report of the State National Security Agency DANS.
Borisov, speaking in an interview BNT Monday, stated that “before one becomes a Prime Minister... he must know how to work with classified information. When a secret document is sent to one person he must keep hold of it.” He added that he expected the Chief Prosecutor to announce charges against the accused officials who have contributed to the current situation later Monday.
Borisov added; “If Sergey Stanishev has given the report to someone when it was intended for his eyes only, a signal to this ends to me or the Chief Prosecutor will lead to the arrest of all those involved... For this crime the minimum is 5 years in jail.”
Borisov concluded by suggesting that the very agency – DANS – that Stanishev created is now “eating his head”.
On Saturday, Borisov announced that a day earlier, Aleksei Petrov, former DANS agent, gave him a copy of the original report in question that was submitted to Stanishev, President Parvanov, and former Parliament Chair Georgi Pirinski in October 2008.
The 30-page report includes names of individuals who had destructive influence on the functions of ministries and State administration institutions. According to Borisov, Stanishev took the report with him with the intention to warn people and circles who were mentioned inside as being involved in corruption practices.
DANS was created on January 1, 2008, by the former government of Sergey Stanishev.
