A top secret report of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS) was submitted to former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev.

Stanishev then illegally took the report out of the Council of Ministers building, Bulgaria’s current PM, Boyko Borisov, said during a Saturday briefing, adding Stanishev used DANS as political police.

Borisov said that just a day ago, the former DANS secret agent, Aleksei Petrov, went to his office and gave him a copy of the original report that was submitted to his predecessor last year.

The report included names of individuals who had destructive influence on the functions of ministries and State administration institutions. It is 30-pages-long and has been dated October 8, 2008. Borisov has already sent it to the Chief Prosecutor.

According to Borisov, Stanishev took the report with him with intentions to warn people and circles who were mentioned inside as being involved in corruption practices.

Borisov further said that the report had been received at the time by Bulgaria’s President, Georgi Parvanov and the then Speaker of the Parliament, Georgi Pirinski.

Last week Bulgaria's Prosecutor's Office initiated a probe against the daily “Galeria” for leaking state secrets over the newspaper publishing parts of the same report. On Tuesday, the Editor-in-Chief of the sensational, only week-old daily "Galeria," Zoya Dimitrova, (who is a former DANS spokesperson) and journalist, Kristina Petrashkova, were called for questioning at DANS.

The Chief Prosecutor's spokesperson, Stilyana Kozhuharova, said the details of the report were prime classified information and the probe is verifying how many people had access to it.

Information about a DANS report submitted to former Bulgaria PM, Sergey Stanishev, regarding corruption in high echelons of power, including ministers, first emerged in the beginning of September.

At the time, YaneYanev, the leader of the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, accused Stanishev of concealing the report, something the former PM firmly denied.

Almost at the same time as parts of the report leaked through the “Galeria” newspaper, Boyko Borisov, confirmed in a TV interview last Sunday that there is indeed such report and he had just received it from Zoya Dimitrova.

A separate probe is ongoing, involving the infamous DANS spying case with the same name – Galeria. DANS is alleged to have been spying during the term of the previous cabinet against representatives of the Bulgarian media. Kozhuharova said this investigation still has not achieved results.

Aleksei Petrov, on his part, is known for his involvement in the scandal surrounding former Interior Minister, Rumen Petkov. The troubles for Petkov started when the former Head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, General Vanyo Tanov, announced that Petkov had revealed Petrov's identity in a hearing at the time Petrov was an undercover DANS agent.

Petrov's name was announced in connection with his presence as an undercover agent during the scandalous meeting between the then Interior Minister Petkov and the notorious businessmen from the southwest Bulgarian town of Dupnitsa, the Galevi Brothers.

This scandal led to allegations that Petkov had connections with organized crime groups, and he eventually resigned as Interior Minister, returning to his seat in the Parliament as a MP from the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party.
