Damaged Leva Banknotes to Be Exchanged for Euros Under BNB’s New Guidelines
The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) has released another set of practical guidelines regarding the transition to the euro once the country joins the eurozone
Kalin Hristov, the newly-appointed Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, was sworn in at the Parliament on Thursday.
Kalin Hristov is coming into office for a six-year term. He is taking over the Emission Department of the BNB from outgoing Deputy Governor Tsvetan Manchev. The Emission Department is in charge of the currency peg in Bulgaria.
Hristov was elected Deputy Governor of BNB by the Parliament in late August 2009 with 174 votes in favor, 2 votes against, and 28 abstaining.
Hristov was born in 1971 in the northern city of Pleven. He graduated with a degree in economics from the University of National and World Economy. He has also been a professor at the Economics and Finance Departments at the same university.
Unconfirmed reports in the spring of 2009 claimed that Kalin Hristov was going to become a MP from the GERB party, and that he had been helping PM Borisov's party with its economic program.
Hristov has rejected both of these claims. His name was also mentioned as a potential Deputy Minister of Finance but he was not appointed to the new government.
The other two Deputy Governors of the BNB are Dimitar Kostov – in charging of the Banking Department since 2005, and Rumen Simeonov – in charge of the Banking Supervision Department since 2007.
