Italy's Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, is arriving Thursday on an official visit to Bulgaria.
Berlusconi will become the first foreign leader to visit Sofia after the new government of the GERB party and Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, assumed power in Bulgaria.
Borisov invited Berlusconi to pay an official visit to Bulgaria when the two met in Gdansk, Poland, on September 1 for the events marking the 70th year since the breakout of World War II.
Berlusconi is going to present Borisov with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic at a ceremony in the Italian Embassy in Sofia.
Berlusconi will in turn be decorated with order Stara Planina with a ribbon by Bulgaria President Georgi Parvanov at a special ceremony at the President's Office.
Berlusconi’s program in Sofia includes a meeting with the Association of Italian businessmen, which will also be attended by Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister, Rosen Plevneliev.
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister is holding an official dinner in Berlusconi’s honor Thursday night.
