At Least Four Dead, Dozens Evacuated in Huge Valencia Apartment Fire
A devastating fire tore through a 14-story apartment building in Valencia, Spain, claiming the lives of at least four individuals and injuring 14 others
After several hours of rescue efforts no survivors have been recovered from the collapsed building in the Czech capital Prague.
Two Bulgarians and two Ukrainians are reported to have been buried under the three-meter deep rubble after the old building that was being renovated collapsed Friday evening.
The chance of finding survivors is very small but is not totally excluded, according to a spokesperson of the Czech CTK rescue teams as cited by Ceske Noviny.
However, the Czech media do not mention anything about the reports that Bulgarian and Ukrainian workers are buried under the collapsed building.
The rescue efforts have been terminated for the night because of threat for the rescuers themselves over possible further collapse.
The Denik newspaper says that as many as seven people might be trapped under the rubble.
The police spokeswoman, Ivan Knolova is quoted as saying that evidence showed four persons might be missing. He statement is based on information from the Sting Praga construction firm, and testimonies from workers who witnessed the collapse.
The causes of the accident are still unclear but according to the reports they most likely have to do with unprofessional work that led to the removal of some of the pillars and foundations in the basement of the old building.
