The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has suspended the contracts of three doctors who reported to the Fund that they had made prophylactic examinations on patients who later died.

Dr Galia Goranova from the NHIF reported the news and added that fines had been handed out to doctors in 52 hospitals across the country for unprofessional conduct.

She said most of the fines werec handed out to doctors who had not done the work that they had been paid for, leaving patients harmed or in the worst cases dead.

Over the past 7 months more than BGN 3 M have been handed out in fines by the Fund on failing hospitals and their staff and fines of BGN 2,54 M for outpatient care.
